Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) Coverage: Ages 35 to 54

As of today, May 28, 2025, applications for the Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) are open for eligible adults aged 35 to 54. If you are between 35 and 45 years old, you can apply now, with coverage starting as early as June 1, 2025.

Eligibility Criteria
  • Be a Canadian resident for tax purposes
  • Be between 18 and 64 years old
  • Have an adjusted family net income below $90,000
  • Not have access to private dental insurance
  • Have filed your 2024 tax return and received your Notice of Assessment
How to Apply

Apply online through the official Government of Canada website: Apply for the Canadian Dental Care Plan.

You'll need your:

  • Social Insurance Number (SIN)
  • Date of birth
  • Information about any existing dental coverage through government social programs (if applicable)
Coverage Details

The CDCP covers a range of dental services, including preventive care, diagnostic services, and restorative treatments.

Once approved, you’ll receive a welcome package with your dental coverage card and program details.

Out-of-Pocket Costs
  1. Your Adjusted Family Net Income
    • $70,000 or less: No co-payment (100% covered)
    • $70,000–$79,999: 40% co-payment (60% covered)
    • $80,000–$89,999: 60% co-payment (40% covered)
    • $90,000 or more: Not eligible for CDCP
  2. Type of Treatment
    • Basic services (cleanings, exams, x-rays, fillings, extractions) are covered
    • Specialized treatments (crowns, bridges, root canals, dentures) may require preauthorization
    • Dentists may charge above the CDCP fee guide; patients pay the difference
  3. Dentist Participation
    • The dentist must be enrolled and willing to bill directly through CDCP
